Is Fairness really fair?
I do no think it would be a good idea to revive the Fairness Doctrine. The Fairness Doctrine is one of those ideas that looks great on paper, but does not really work when put into practice. For example, if someone who has chosen to listen to a Christian radio station, who you can assume is pro-life, they have probably chosen to listen to that station because they agree with the views of that station. With that being said, most people who chose to listen to a Christian radio station are not going to want to listen to equal time of Pro-choice. If they wanted to hear someone talk about pro-choice they would tune into a radio station that expressed view of pro-choice. I think to make media channels give equal time to opposing viewpoints would just hurt the media because it would discourage listeners who like to listen to what they agree with. I would think that even if you aired the equal time there would not be many listeners. I don’t really think the Fairness Doctrine is fair. It’s just like freedom of the press just because you can say it does not mean that you should say it or that anyone should have to listen. Fairness Doctrine almost clashes with Freedom of the Press because media channels should be able to air what they want and should not be limited because they have to share time with opposing viewpoints. I think that it would be a waste of time and energy to revive Fairness doctrine
